SEEKING Stage Manager for 'Sacrifice of Farinelli' in August

Hi fellow theatre-makers,

My name is Stu and I am staging The Sacrifice of Farinelli, a theatre show about the brothers Broschi and the price of art. We have everything in place, an incredibly ambient/vibey venue for conjuring the spirits, an amazing cast, set, costumes, masks, immersive technology, incredible music, lights, fog effects, but alas, our stage manager has pulled out. If you know anyone or are wanting to step in and join us, please contact me on admin@subversetheatre.net LOGLINE: Two brothers, Riccardo - a composer, and Carlo - a castrated opera singer, struggle to find meaning in a new age of ego, hedonism and narcissism. Carlo finds a great love he cannot have, while Riccardo finds a hollowed identity as he is consumed by his obsession - sublime music at any price.

Hello from Second Echo Ensemble

Hi everyone,

Kelly here from Second Echo Ensemble in Lutruwita, Tasmania.

We’re a multi arts organisation working at the intersection of radical equity, access, live performance, film, sound, installation, and long form ensemble practice. For twenty years our artists, many with lived experience of disability, have been asking a simple question.

What happens when the people historically invited in last help design the room from the beginning?

That question has now led us toward opera.

We’re currently developing The Eternal River. A large scale civic opera unfolding across Hobart’s waterfront. A re voicing of Il Trittico through Tasmanian stories, public space, choir, film, movement, Auslan, water, memory, and collective authorship.

Hi Kelly! I'm a disabled composer working in mostly choral music based in Naarm keen to work more on collaborative projects and your points around access (in particular) sound really interesting. I'd love to connect with you and your group! Katharine

FREE Web hosting on offer

We have some web hosting available if anyone needs a website set up. You buy the name, we create a basic one-page site for you (via WIX) and transfer the ownership to you to use as you wish with FREE hosting until the end of Feb 2027. After that, it is around $21 p/m (depending on your plan). Let us know if you'd like to take up this offer. (We had set a website up for someone who is not able to use it anymore, so this plan will go to waste otherwise!)

IDEAS!

Hi everyone, would love to hear from you about what you'd like from this forum - and to a larger degree from FLUXUS. This space is very new, and we are open to all ideas! I am just finalising some spaces to sit in on dress rehearsals for Victorian Opera coming up, and will be offering 4 seats to each rehearsal to you all. For now, I'd love to start a conversation about what contemporary opera you've seen that you love - especially work that we can all see or listen to online. It would be great for us all to discover more work and styles of work that are happening out there. Opera is a myriad and (mostly) wonderful beast, and it would be great to get a sense of its capacity from your perspectives! I will go first. Here is a secret link to the archival recording of our…

Thanks, Ali! A double bill that I recently saw and absolutely loved was Mary Motorhead / Trade by Emma O'Halloran and Mark O'Halloran. No video available, but you can listen to the Grammy-nominated recording via the usual music streaming channels.

Another recent opera that I found intriguing is Blue by Jeanine Tesori and Tazewell Thompson -- you can listen to highlights and a behind-the-scenes discussion from the Glimmerglass Festival here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMH4imgyHVw&list=PL14hRqd0PELEB8KPyzBOMI_ddbvbg3qS7&index=3

Welcome!

Hello everyone - thank you for joining this community group. I hope you will be able to share you work, find potential collaborations and generally be inspired by each other! We have been a bit silent with Easter holidays and so apologies if we haven't got back to everyones messages. I know some people had trouble joining this group (I am still trying to work some tech issues out). But please email me on ali@fluxus.com.au if there is anything pressing. I hope to be able to offer some opportunities to sit in on rehearsal in the coming months of new work happening around the country. If anyone has any opportunities to share work please also feel free to post any call to arms here! x Ali
